FAQ (frequently asked questions)

What is the casting material made of?
The casting material is made of a lukewarm, non-toxic, seaweed-based material that is safe for even the most delicate new skins.

What’s the difference between bronze resin and real bronze?
Bronze resin is a fast-setting material that contains real bronze powder. Although it looks like real bronze, it’s not quite as heavy so it’s easier to break if dropped onto a hard surface. We recommend framing your bronze resin casts in order to protect them. Bronze resin casts take 2-3 weeks to make and can last for years if looked after properly.

Real bronze is cold to the touch and much heavier, too. While regular care and maintenance is always beneficial, this long- lasting, high quality material is virtually indestructible. Real bronze casts take up to 10 weeks to make and can last indefinitely. We recommend a beanbag or slate base to display these casts so you can pick them up as often as you like.

How should I care for my casts?
Bronze or sterling silver may be polished or lightly dusted with a soft cloth. Bronze resin may be buffed up to a high shine with a soft duster.

Does the open frame remain clean?
Yes. There is a Perspex cover on the back that the feet are glued onto which protects the inside of the frame.

How long will it take to mould my baby’s feet for a cast?
The process takes about 30 seconds.

How do you remove his/her foot from the mould?
The casting mousse remains flexible even when it’s set; so, all that’s needed is one very gentle pull and your baby’s foot is free.

How do you make babies stay still during the casting process?
We don’t! We just make sure they’re comfortable and take the casts as quickly as possible!

Do you have any tips for achieving a better cast? Should I bring anything to the casting session?
Instead of baby grows, use socks which allow easier access to your baby’s feet. If we are casting your baby’s hands, we recommend feeding him/her during the process since we often receive a better physical pose. Also, bringing along a favorite toy can be useful as a distraction or a means for relaxation for your baby.

What’s the best age to have my baby’s hands or feet cast?
Any age you like. Our youngest so far is only 8 hours old!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever been asked to cast?
A dog’s nose!

Has Image Casting ever cast anyone famous?
Yes! Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, and many Wimbledon tennis champions.
