Real Bronze Baby Casts

Molten bronzeImage Casting is pleased to announce the reintroduction of real bronze casts alongside our resin baby hand and foot casts.  Bronze has been used for many hundreds of years as a sculpture medium, standing the test of time, both aesthetically and in terms of durability, and these same aspects can now be applied to our beautiful baby keepsakes, to make your little one’s fingers and toes stand the test of time, too.

The Benefits of Real Bronze Baby Hand and Foot Casts

The beauty of real bronze is its tangibility. It’s a robust material which is heavier than resin.  If a bronze cast is dropped on a solid floor, it won’t break, which means that big and little fingers alike can play with and explore the casts – which could quite possibly be casts of the same little fingers and toes in a younger format – without causing any damage. Bronze casts are certainly very tactile objects, and although they are too heavy to frame they make beautiful freestanding objects.

Highly Polished Bronze FeetThe Traditional Process of Casting Bronze

Creating a bronze baby hand cast or baby foot cast requires a specialist process.  Firstly, a perfect wax replica is made of the mould.  This is then sent to a specialist foundry where the “lost wax method” is used to cast the real bronze.  This involves pouring the molten bronze into the wax mould, and removing the wax once it is cool enough to do so. An expert finish is then required to bring out the definition and patination of the cast. The total process is highly skilled from start to finish, and can take up to 12 weeks to complete. Having said that, taking the mould in the first instance is just the same, and therefore just as simple, as taking the resin cast mould – quick, easy and creating no discomfort for baby.
