‘Lily’ Takes Top Spot As Most Popular Girls’ Name For 2023

9th July 2023

The latest mid-year chart for the most popular girls’ names of the year has revealed Lily is the top moniker so far in 2023.

According to BabyCentre’s latest findings, Sophia has been pipped to the post by Lily, just a few months after it took the crowning position from Olivia.

After being the nation’s favourite girl’s name from 2015 to 2022, Olivia now sits comfortably in third position, with Amelia coming in fourth, and Freya in fifth place.

Speaking with The Mirror, Sarah Redshaw, managing editor for BabyCentre, said the trend for 2023 is nature-themed names.

She stated this is due to “more and more people work[ing] in the comfort of their homes and gardens post-pandemic”.

Willow, Ivy, Daisy, Violet, Jasmine, Hazel, Rose, Olive and Amber all made the top 100 girls’ names.

When it comes to boys’ names, the top five positions remained the same as the end of 2022, with Muhammad, Noah, Theo, Leo and Oliver.

Ahmed, Mateo, Axel, Musa, Sam, Austin, Cody, Hamza, Frankie, Harvey, Felix, John, Eddie, Elias, Jake and Junior were new entries for the first half of 2023.

This comes after Comparethemarket recently revealed there are some names that people are no longer choosing for their babies these days.

These include Varsha, Brooke, Lucy and Chloe for girls, and Dayton, Owen and Kai for boys.

Some parents can only choose what to call their little one after they have met them, and they have seen their tiny feet, had their delicate fingers wrapped around theirs, and discovered a bit of their personality.

These moments are precious so one way to keep hold of them forever is with baby hands casting. For more information, give us a call today.
